John Bramblitt

John Bramblitt is a blind artisan who has pioneered work which accommodates to people of all abilities and disabilities. Bramblitt holds the title of being a consultant for art museums in deligating programs which can benefit everyone. His work has been sold in over 121 countries and he has appeared internationally in a multitude of fields including; print, TV and radio. In addition to appearing on said fields, Bramblitt has made an emergence on a number of outlets including; ABC, NBC, FOX and BBC Radio, to name a few. Rather than continuing to list off facts about Bramblitt, I will now discuss what it is that draws me to his work; being an innovative creator and a person who strives for diversity and inclusiveness, naturally I am intrigued by him. Upon starting this project, I set out to find an assemblage of blind or visually impaired artists, being that my project is based off of the blind, I want to see the works of the blind and discover alternative methods of painting and creating when visually impaired. I hope to create works which stimulate all senses in order to accommodate to those who may have a loss of one particular sense, be that sight or hearing, I want my work to be an experience that the audience can indulge in.

Bramblitt has been kind enough to allow me to interview him, and through that interview we discussed how the art industry could project further inclusivity, and the democracy that is evidently portrayed within the field. All of the questions I had asked John will be included in another blog post alongside the interview audio. After talking to Bramblitt and enquiring his methods and workshops, he inspired me to orchestrate an array of sensory platforms for my audience to derive from; rather than producing tactile images and tiles, I have collected scents, texture based items, impressions and audio clips of environments which connote toward the artwork. Having interviewed John, I have established my first contact through my art career and I am eager to continue producing work which eradicates the blatant democracy of art.
