Kavan Cardoza or rather, “Kavan The Kid” is a photographer and director based in Los Angeles. Kid was a psychology student, though he dropped out as he knew he could express his emotions through film and photography. Rather than having a vulnerable conversation with one person, Kid converses with us all in his photography.
Present themes which connote toward Kids work are anger, desperation, and fear these are but a small assemblage of the themes noted within his work; though commonly detrimental to the subject. His work is imbued with genuine sentiment, each image is a visual narrative, a juxtaposed images, obscured by a dark hue, the identity of the subject often hidden, made to be a form rather than human; a metaphysical response to each theme. Kid allows us to transcend into the depths of a poised mind, adorned with convoluted imagery personal to himself, we experience a caricature of his life and mindset.
Kids work appeals to me in that it explores perspective and surrealism; he works from a variety of angles and causes the audience to question the meaning behind each art work, his work is nonprofit and dedicated to helping people with depression, addiction, self injury and suicide given his own personal experiences. I find for him to display his work and allow it to become a platform for those who suffer from similar illnesses to be truly honourable, creating work like this induces a sense of normality toward the bad days, and allows the audience to realise we are human, there is no shame in getting help and expressing yourself. Technically speaking I find Kids work to be remarkable in his placement of symbols, attire and emotive effects, I endeavour to literalise themes just as Kid has done in a surrealist manner.
