Mediums used: Polyfilla & Acrylic
As a means to further develop my abstract work and employ various displays of texture I decided to disperse a layer of polyfilla over canvas, I chose not to do this seamlessly as I endeavoured to conjure new mark makings and textures over the canvas, almost conjuring another image within the final painting. I wanted the canvas to be a form rather than a stagnant display. The polyfilla was applied generously and occasionally scraped and stippled with a palette knife, as to supplement a jagged wave pattern which followed a diverted, linear flow downwards.
I wanted to keep the design relatively simplistic given the abundance of texture employed over the surface, I photographed the piece prior to painting as I feel both are equally complete. The colour scheme adopted consisted of only three colours, lemon yellow, mars black and titanium white. I found the colour scheme being chromatic followed by a dash of yellow allowed the work to be embellished by a statement pigment, again I kept the application to a minimum as to avoid over compensating with texture over texture. I committed to a few vigorous swipes of acrylic, allowing product to mount and used what was left to gently scrape over the peaked points of polyfilla.
