In order to promote and market, spreading awareness for the cause I am supporting in my artwork, I have recently taken to printing my designs onto merchandise. By marketing my most striking print, I can usher in recognition to the cause and the importance of the imagery shown, alongside reaching a wider spread audience through aesthetic appeal.
Simulated lenses intrigue the audience, alongside symbolic reunions of creatures within an amalgamation of obscurity and renewal. Merchandising can increase the amount of customers who recognise and purchase from the cause. With increased traffic may come increased sales and success, though there needs to be a stable means of manufacturing as to avoid congestion of orders. Supply needs to meet demand.
Pricing, displays, product packaging and arrangement, sale signs and promotional marketing can all drive sales upward while improving the shopping experience for your customers. As I have recently taken to selling prints of my work, I have included promotional deals as to appeal to the audience ie:
I included a deal, the first 5 customers would receive a free sticker
If you purchased 3 or more prints you would receive an additional free print on either a smaller scale, or a lesser quality.
If you have purchased 3 or more prints and are based in the UK postage is then free of charge, if you are international the postage fee will be halved.
An increase in customers often translates to a necessary increase in hours. With more people purchasing designs, comes more deliveries, customer service issues, increased packaging fees, along with manufacturing congestion and the need for supply to meet demand. The greatest disadvantage of successful merchandising may be the need to meet the expectations of your clientele, keeping a steady stream of new customers coming in and previous developing brand loyalty. Once the bar has been set, allowing it to fall would negatively affect your sales and shrink your customer base. The stresses and obligations of small-business owners are many, and some are not willing to take on the additional task of large-scale merchandising.
Moving on from the advantages and disadvantages of merchandise, the quality in which the following pieces I had printed came out really well. I had used vista print, using my own designs and adjusting the images slightly, I established the colour scheme, sizing and placement of each design.
